What a relieving letter says
A relieving letter is short. It confirms:
- The date of the resignation letter
- That the company accepted the resignation
- The last working day
- That the handover is done and company property is back
- When the full and final settlement will be paid
- That confidentiality terms still apply
When to give a relieving letter
Give it on the last working day, once the handover and exit checklist are done. If the full and final settlement is not paid yet, say when it will be. The Code on Wages asks employers to pay wages due within two working days of a resignation, so check the timeline with your payroll team.
Ask why they are leaving
The last week is the best time to learn why someone is leaving. Goodfit’s exit interview calls ask every leaver the same questions by phone. You get a report that shows the main reasons, by team and manager.
