What to put in an experience letter
A new employer reads the experience letter to confirm what the person did and for how long. Include:
- The company letterhead and the date
- The employee’s full name and employee ID
- The joining date and the last working day
- The designation when they joined and when they left
- Their main responsibilities (optional)
- One line about their work (optional)
- The signature of HR or another authorized person
Experience letter vs relieving letter
A relieving letter confirms that the company accepted the resignation and the person has left. An experience letter describes their role and time at the company. New employers usually ask for both.
Make a relieving letterMake sure the dates match your records
Background checks compare the dates and designation in this letter with your HR records and the employee’s PF history. If they don’t match, the check flags it and the employee’s new job can be delayed. Copy the dates from your HR system.
