What are the best exit interview companies in 2026?
The right company depends on how you want leavers to be asked. Some firms have trained people call each leaver. Some sell software that sends an online exit survey. Goodfit has an AI agent phone each leaver and ask your questions. The table lists 10 vendors that HR teams compare most often, with what each one publishes about price.
We checked every vendor’s own website on October 15, 2026. Where a vendor does not publish a price, the table says so. Vendors change prices and plans, so confirm before you buy.

What does an exit interview company do?
An exit interview company asks your departing employees why they are leaving, so your own HR team or managers do not have to. It then adds up the answers into a report: the main reasons people quit, split by team, location and manager.
Human interview services. Firms like Work Institute and HSD Metrics have their own staff reach each leaver, often by phone, sometimes after the last working day. A person can ask follow-up questions and hear what a form misses. These services are the most hands-on, and none of them list a price.
Exit survey software. Qualtrics, Culture Amp, Lattice, ExitPro and Nobscot send each leaver a link to an online survey. It is cheap to send, and the reports are built in. The weak point is that many people skip the form or answer in a few words.
AI phone calls. Goodfit phones every leaver within the calling hours you set and asks your questions, with follow-ups when an answer is thin. Each call is recorded and transcribed. You get each person’s reason in their own words, and a report that ranks the reasons across all your leavers.
Should you outsource exit interviews?
Yes, if people are not telling your HR team the real reason they leave. Leavers want a good reference, so they give the safe answer: a better offer, a shorter commute. A neutral caller hears more. Work Institute says on its site that a third party finds a different reason for leaving 40% to 63% of the time, based on studies it does not name.
Outsourcing also helps when you lose too many people to call yourself. If you have 30 leavers a month across many sites, HR cannot reach them all. The interviews that do happen are uneven, so the reasons do not add up to a clear picture.
Keep exit interviews in-house if you lose only a handful of people a year and HR has a good relationship with them. A short conversation with someone outside the person’s team can be enough. Use the six core exit interview questions so every conversation covers the same ground.
How much do outsourced exit interviews cost?
Most exit interview companies do not publish prices. Work Institute, HSD Metrics, People Element, Qualtrics, Culture Amp, Nobscot and Quantum Workplace all ask you to book a call first.
Here is what is published. ExitPro starts at $79 a month when billed every quarter. Lattice includes exit surveys in its Engagement product at $4 per seat a month, with a $4,000 yearly minimum. Goodfit charges $5 for each finished exit call, with no contract and the first 20 free.
A worked example: a company with 600 staff and 20% yearly turnover loses about 120 people a year, or 10 a month. With Goodfit, calling all of them costs 120 × $5 = $600 a year. On Lattice, 600 seats of Engagement cost $28,800 a year, which also covers its engagement surveys. Ask every vendor for one yearly price at your real number of leavers.
What should you ask an exit interview vendor?
Ask the same questions of every vendor, and ask for a sample report from a real program with names removed.
- Who talks to the leaver: your staff, the vendor’s staff, an AI agent, or a web form?
- What share of leavers finish the interview, and how do you count a finished one?
- How many times do you try to reach someone, and at what hours?
- Can I read or hear what each person said, or only the summary?
- Is it anonymous or confidential? Can I see reasons by manager without naming anyone?
- Can I use my own questions, and add a reason code from our HR system to compare?
- What do I pay in a year for our real number of leavers, all in?
Where does Goodfit fit?
Goodfit suits employers who lose many people each month, often hourly or frontline staff, and want every one of them called. You upload a list of leavers with their phone numbers and last working days. Goodfit calls each one up to three times, books a callback when someone asks, and opens every call with the same confidentiality note. Each call costs $5 once it is finished.
You get a PDF for each leaver with the recording and transcript, plus a company report. It ranks the reasons people left, by team and manager. It also shows how often the reason HR recorded matches what the person said on the call. See how Goodfit exit interviews work.
Goodfit is not the right pick if you want a human interviewer on every call, or if you want to compare your exit reasons against other companies in your industry. Work Institute and HSD Metrics publish benchmark data from many employers. If your leavers are mostly office staff who answer email, the exit survey inside your engagement tool may be enough. To hear concerns before people resign, Goodfit also runs check-in calls with employees at the milestones you choose.
Frequently asked questions
What is an exit interview company?
A company that asks your departing employees why they are leaving and reports the reasons back to you. Some use their own interviewers on the phone, some send online surveys, and Goodfit uses an AI agent that phones each leaver. All of them add up the answers by team, location and manager.
How much does an outsourced exit interview cost?
Most vendors do not publish prices, including Work Institute, HSD Metrics and People Element. Published prices include ExitPro from $79 a month for unlimited online surveys, Lattice at $4 per seat a month with a $4,000 yearly minimum, and Goodfit at $5 for each finished exit call.
Are people more honest with a third party?
Usually, yes. A leaver who wants a good reference often gives HR a safe reason. A neutral caller who is not their manager tends to hear the real one. Open with a true confidentiality line, and say who will see the answers.
Is a phone exit interview better than an exit survey?
A phone call gets fuller answers, because the caller can ask a follow-up when an answer is short. Surveys are cheaper and easier to send, but many leavers skip them or write a few words.
When should an exit interview happen?
During the notice period, after the resignation is accepted, or in the first weeks after the last day. People are often more open once their final pay is settled. Call within a few weeks, while the reasons are still fresh.
Are Goodfit exit interviews anonymous?
They are confidential but named. Every call tells the person that their answers go only to HR leadership. Names let HR see the reasons by team and manager. Goodfit is SOC 2 Type II compliant.
