Gross speed counts every word typed. Net speed takes off a penalty for words with mistakes, so a fast but careless typist does not look better than a careful one. Accuracy is the share of words typed correctly.

What typing speed should we ask for?
Pick a minimum that matches the job. As a starting point, try 35 net words per minute for admin work, 45 for chat support and data entry, and 60 for transcription. Keep accuracy at 95% or higher when people handle customer data.
