The intermediate test has 15 tasks and takes about 35 minutes. Every task shows the sheet the candidate needs.

Formula tasks

Candidates write formulas in a live spreadsheet

Each task opens a spreadsheet in the browser with column letters and row numbers. The task says which cell to fill and what it should return. The candidate types the formula into the cell, exactly as they would in Excel, and sees the result.

Checking

Every formula is checked against the answers you accept

A lookup can be written several ways: VLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH or XLOOKUP. Each task can accept a list of right answers. Or the AI compares the formula with your model answer and gives a short reason. Wrong and blank answers are marked, so you see where someone got stuck.

Levels

Pick basic, intermediate or advanced tasks for the job

An admin role needs sums, filters and simple IF formulas. An operations or finance role needs lookups and pivot tables. An analyst role needs nested formulas and array functions. Choose a level, or mix tasks from more than one.

Scores

You get a score for formulas, lookups, pivot tables and charts

Pivot table and chart tasks show the data and ask the candidate to pick the right setup, such as which field goes in rows. Formula and lookup tasks ask them to type it. The report groups every task by skill, so you can see that someone writes formulas well but struggles with pivots.

Add a larger task where candidates upload a finished workbook

For senior roles, add one bigger task, such as "build a summary of sales by region from an order list". The candidate builds it in Excel or Google Sheets and uploads the file, up to 3 MB. Your reviewer opens it from the report and adds a score.

Excel test: common questions

Do candidates need Excel installed?
Not for the formula, pivot table and chart tasks, which run in the browser. They need Excel or Google Sheets only for the optional workbook upload.
Does the test accept different formulas that give the same result?
Yes. Add every correct version to a task, or let the AI compare the formula with your model answer and give a reason.
Which level should we use?
Basic for admin and coordinator roles, intermediate for operations and finance, and advanced for analyst roles. Mix tasks from two levels if a role sits in between.
Does it work for Google Sheets users?
Most formulas are the same in Excel and Google Sheets. Add or change tasks if your team uses functions that only one of them has.
