Situational judgment test with scenarios scored for your role

Candidates read a scenario, such as a late delivery or a teammate who missed a deadline, and pick the best response. Some scenarios ask for a spoken answer instead. Every option carries points, so a reasonable answer earns part of the credit and a poor one earns none.

Stories about past behavior are easy to rehearse

"Tell me about a time you handled conflict" invites a polished story. A situational judgment test puts the candidate in one specific moment and asks for a choice. Everyone sees the same scenarios and is scored on the same weights. You compare people on the decisions they make, side by side.

How scenarios are built, answered and scored

A typical SJT has 12 scenarios and takes 20 to 25 minutes. Start from library scenarios for your role and change the details to fit your business.

Scenarios

Each scenario is a real moment from the job

A scenario describes one situation in two or three sentences. The candidate picks what they would do first from four options. The options are all things a real person might do, so the right one is not obvious.

  • Written from the point of view of the role
  • Four options that all sound reasonable
  • A timer on each scenario
  • Questions shown in a different order for each candidate

Weighted options

Every option gets a weight from 0 to 100

There is rarely one right answer at work. You give each option a weight. The best response earns full points. A workable but weaker response earns part of them. The report shows which option each candidate picked and what it was worth.

  • The best option always earns full points
  • A weak but safe choice can still earn some
  • Harmful choices earn zero
  • Change weights before the test goes out

Spoken answers

Some scenarios ask candidates to explain in their own words

For harder scenarios, the candidate records a spoken answer of up to five minutes. Goodfit turns it into a transcript and scores it against the model answer you wrote. The score comes with a short reason, and you can play the recording.

  • Spoken answers of up to five minutes
  • A transcript for every recording
  • Scored on what the person says
  • A one- or two-sentence reason with each score

Library

Pick scenarios from the library for your role

The library has scenarios for support, sales, operations, retail, healthcare and first-time managers. Search by role or skill and add them to a test. Edit the wording so it matches your products and your customers.

  • Search by role, skill or difficulty
  • Edit any scenario after you add it
  • Write your own as weighted multiple-choice questions
  • Mix scenarios with other skill questions in one test

Scores

You get a score for each area of judgment

Group scenarios by what they test, such as fairness with the team or knowing when to escalate. The report scores each group. Two people with the same total can have very different strengths.

  • Points and a score out of 10 for each group
  • The option picked on every scenario
  • A reason for every spoken answer
  • PDF report and private share link

Promotions

Use the same scenarios to compare people for a promotion

When several agents apply to become a team lead, the comparison has to be fair. Each one answers the same scenarios and is scored on the same weights. Share the report with the hiring manager so the decision is easy to explain.

  • Same scenarios and weights for every applicant
  • Sort by total or by one area
  • See who needs coaching before they step up
  • Works for internal moves and outside hires

FAQ

Situational judgment test: common questions

How is an SJT different from a personality test?
A personality test asks people to describe themselves. An SJT asks what they would do in a specific work situation and scores the choice. The two work well together.
Can we write scenarios about our own business?
Yes. Write a scenario as a multiple-choice question and give each option a weight. Starting from a library scenario and changing the details is often faster.
Is there only one right answer?
Usually not. Each option has its own weight, so a reasonable choice still earns points. The report shows which option each person picked.
Which roles benefit most?
Customer support, sales, retail, healthcare, operations and new managers. In these jobs, daily choices matter as much as technical knowledge.
