PocketPills is a Canadian healthcare technology company founded in 2018 that aims to simplify medication management and pharmacy services for patients across Canada. While its operations are based in Canada, PocketPills runs its engineering, product, data, and AI teams out of India, supporting product development and innovation for its healthcare platform. We spoke with Christina Khokar, HR Manager at PocketPills India, who has been with the company for nearly 6 years, to understand how Goodfit helped improve hiring efficiency, reduce screening workload, and enable faster candidate evaluation.
The challenges
High application volume for each role
PocketPills receives a significant number of applicants for most job postings. Engineering roles typically attract around 500 applicants, while marketing roles draw 1,000 or more.
With a small HR team managing all hiring for India, reading every resume individually before even getting to a first screening call meant a large chunk of recruiter time was spent before any real evaluation happened.
The deeper problem was conversion. After a COVID-era hiring surge, Christina noticed the team was spending more and more business hours on interviews and still not closing roles. Candidates were being offered and not joining.
Assessments that candidates would not complete
During the COVID hiring surge, PocketPills tried tech assessment platforms including HackerRank. The problem was candidate behaviour. People were not willing to sit through long assignments or MCQ-based evaluations, especially for roles where they had multiple options.
Christina's view was direct: she had never liked long-form online assessments as a hiring tool. What she wanted was conversation, not a test paper.
An AI tool that was functional but hard to use
When AI interviewing platforms emerged, PocketPills adopted one called VeloxHire. It worked, but using it as a recruiter was frustrating. Dashboards were hard to navigate, data was not well presented, and the interface required more effort than it should have. Christina had already paid for a year's worth of credits with VeloxHire when she started looking for alternatives. The decision to switch was not about cost, it was about friction.
"My team was spending a lot of time hiring, interviewing and all that, and the conversion was not happening. Business hours were being spent interviewing and closing the roles, and then candidates were not joining. It was like wastage of their business hours."

Why PocketPills chose Goodfit
Before adopting Goodfit, PocketPills experimented with several hiring tools. During the COVID hiring surge, the team used a tech assessment platform. However, candidates were often reluctant to complete long assignments or MCQ-based evaluations.
Later, the team adopted another AI interviewing platform. While functional, Christina found the platform difficult to navigate and less intuitive for recruiters.
One feature that stood out was the conversational nature of the AI interview. She also found the AI's accent and tone easier for candidates to understand.
"They didn't have very good dashboards and presentation of data and positions. It was all a little complex. Not very user friendly or UI driven."

The solution
AI interviews for first-level screening
PocketPills implemented Goodfit's AI interviews as the first level of candidate evaluation.
Instead of scheduling preliminary calls with every candidate, applicants now complete AI interviews asynchronously. This helped reduce the time recruiters spent interviewing unqualified candidates.
Coding assessments for internship hiring
PocketPills also experimented with Goodfit's coding assessments for internship hiring.
The team used coding and aptitude tests to filter candidates before moving them into interview rounds.
Faster hiring for marketing roles
Goodfit also helped accelerate hiring for newly created marketing roles. When PocketPills expanded its marketing function in India, the team used Goodfit to evaluate candidates quickly.
What's next for PocketPills
PocketPills plans to continue expanding its use of Goodfit as hiring demand grows across engineering, product, and marketing teams.
Christina also highlighted opportunities to enhance reporting dashboards for better candidate tracking. As the company continues scaling its engineering and marketing teams, AI-driven candidate screening is expected to remain a key part of its recruitment strategy.
