What is AI phone screening?
AI phone screening is software that calls a job applicant, asks your first-round questions out loud and scores the answers. The recruiter gets a recording, a transcript and a ranked list instead of a day of phone tag. For hourly roles, the main win is speed: the tool can reach every applicant within minutes, at any hour, before they take another job.
Not every tool sold for hourly hiring makes a phone call. Some screen by text message or chat. Some send a browser link where the candidate speaks their answers. We sorted the tools below by how they really screen, using each vendor’s own website.
The best AI phone screening tools, compared
We checked every tool below on October 19, 2026, and Phonescreen’s prices again on October 24, 2026. Prices are list prices from each vendor’s website. “Not published” means the site asks you to book a demo for a quote.

How much does AI phone screening cost?
Four of the ten tools publish prices, and they use two models. Goodfit charges for each finished screen and nothing in a month with no hiring. Phonescreen, Classet and Ribbon sell monthly plans with a set number of interviews, and charge $2.50 to $5 for each interview over the plan. The rest quote after a demo.
Here is what each published price works out to at three steady volumes. Goodfit sells credits 200 at a time ($1,000), and interviews where the candidate is connected for less than 2 minutes are free.
| Tool | 50 screens a month | 300 screens a month | 1,000 screens a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goodfit | $250 | $1,500 | $5,000 |
| Phonescreen | $199 on Basic (25 plus 25 extra at $4) | $1,049 on Pro (100 plus 200 extra at $4) | $1,999 on Enterprise |
| Classet | $249 on Starter | $1,199 on Scale (250 plus 50 extra at $4) | $3,999 on Scale, or an Enterprise quote from $1,995 |
| Ribbon | $499 on Growth | $999 on Business | $1,999 on Scale |

Which pricing model costs less?
At steady volume, monthly plans cost less per interview. Ribbon’s Scale plan and Phonescreen’s Enterprise plan both work out to about $2 per interview at 1,000 a month, which is well below any per-screen price on this list.
Hourly hiring is rarely steady, though. Stores and warehouses hire hard before the holidays and slow down in January. Classet and Ribbon list their lowest prices on yearly billing, so you pay the same in slow months. Phonescreen bills monthly or yearly, and its smallest plan is $99 a month. With Goodfit, a month with no hiring costs nothing. Count how many screens you ran in each of the last 12 months before you choose. Our AI interview software pricing guide runs the same math for more vendors.
Phone-first tools with public prices: Goodfit and Phonescreen
Goodfit calls each applicant in the hours you set, asks if now is a good time, then asks your first-round questions. It asks follow-up questions based on each answer and asks about claims on the resume. It calls back when a line drops and books a new time when someone is busy. You get a ranked list, and each skill gets a score out of 10 with the candidate’s own words and a link to that moment in the recording. Skill tests come with the same credit. It costs $5 per finished interview, and the first 20 are free. See AI phone screening for a sample call.
Phonescreen is built for hourly teams in home care, warehouses, restaurants, retail, trucking and call centers. It calls new applicants within minutes, or applicants call a local number when they are free. It runs phone screens in 34 languages, with transcripts in English, and it also checks references by text. Plans cost $99 a month for 25 completed screens, $249 for 100 with reference checks, and $1,999 for 1,000, plus $4 for each extra screen. Yearly billing gives 2 months free. The first 10 screens are free, and missed calls, voicemails and candidates who withdraw are not counted.
Monthly plans: Classet and Ribbon
Classet sells an AI recruiter named Joy that calls applicants the moment they apply. Applicants can also call a hiring number that Joy answers at any hour. Classet lists 25+ languages, including Spanish, and 95+ ATS connections. Starter is $249 a month for 50 completed interviews and Scale is $999 a month for 250, both billed yearly. Scheduling and custom text flows are paid add-ons with no listed price. Every account starts with 20 free interviews.
Ribbon runs spoken screening interviews that work on any phone, in 10 languages. It reaches candidates by text, WhatsApp and email. Its site lists warehousing, trucking, manufacturing, security, cleaning, home care and staffing. Plans run from $499 a month for 100 interviews to $1,999 for 1,000, billed yearly, with a 7-day free trial.
Hourly hiring suites: Workstream, Fountain and Paradox
These three do much more than screen. They are the tools to look at if you want one vendor for job posts, applications, scheduling and onboarding. None of them publishes prices.
Workstream sells hiring, HR and payroll software for hourly, multi-location teams, and most of its named customers are restaurant brands. Its VoiceAI product makes AI phone and video screening calls, sends interview reminder calls and records every call with a transcript.
Fountain sells frontline hiring software to large employers in food service, retail, delivery and staffing. Its AI recruiter, Anna, is listed under voice agents. Its page does not say whether Anna screens by phone call or in a browser, so ask for a demo call.
Paradox is the best-known name in hourly hiring. Its assistant, Olivia, screens applicants “through chat or text” and books interviews, and we found no AI phone call product on its site. Workday owns Paradox. Read our Paradox pricing guide for what buyers report paying.
AI recruiters sold through a demo: Alex, HeyMilo and Tenzo
Alex calls applicants and also calls lists of past or passive candidates you upload. It works by phone with no app or internet needed, and also by video, text and WhatsApp. Its site lists 30 languages and frontline industries such as retail, hospitality, manufacturing and logistics, as well as office roles.
HeyMilo runs audio interviews by phone or browser and screens by text. It sells to enterprise, staffing, BPO and franchise teams, and lists Greenhouse, Bullhorn, Workday and other ATS connections.
Tenzo runs phone or video interviews in 40+ languages and lists 57+ integrations. All three ask you to book a demo for a price.
AI answers also name Humanly, which screens by text and chat and runs voice and video interviews, and HappyRobot, which sells AI voice agents to logistics, retail, manufacturing and other large companies. Sapia.ai is text only by design, and Outhire runs phone and video interviews without published prices.
What to check before you choose an AI phone screening tool
Ask each vendor to screen you as if you were an applicant for one of your real roles. Then check these:
- Does it place a real phone call, or send a link or a text? Many hourly applicants have a phone but may not have a laptop.
- How fast does the first call go out after someone applies, and what happens when nobody picks up?
- What counts as a billable screen: a finished call, any connected call, or any attempt?
- Can it interview in the languages your applicants speak? Test a call in each one.
- Do you get the recording and the full transcript, or only a pass or fail?
- Does it ask follow-up questions, or read a fixed script?
- How do results reach your ATS, and who sets that up?
- Does it tell candidates up front that they are talking to an AI?
Where does Goodfit fit?
Goodfit suits teams that want a full first-round interview, with follow-up questions, on every applicant. Each call ends with a score out of 10 for each skill, the recording and the transcript, and your team decides who moves on. You pay $5 per finished interview with no seat fees and no setup fee. Goodfit is SOC 2 Type II compliant, and ATS connections are set up during onboarding.
Goodfit is not a job board, a career site or a payroll tool. If you want one vendor for applications, scheduling and onboarding, look at Workstream, Fountain or Paradox. If you screen the same high volume every month, Ribbon’s yearly plans cost less per interview. To see how teams run hourly hiring with AI interviews, read our high-volume hiring software guide.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI phone screening tool for hourly hiring?
It depends on your volume and how much of hiring you want one tool to do. For pay-per-screen phone calls with no monthly fee, look at Goodfit at $5. For steady monthly volume, Phonescreen, Ribbon and Classet sell plans from $99 a month. For one platform that also handles applications and onboarding, look at Workstream or Fountain.
How much does AI phone screening cost?
Published prices work out to about $2 to $7 per interview, depending on the plan and your volume. Goodfit charges $5 per finished interview, with no monthly fee. Phonescreen starts at $99 a month for 25 screens. Classet starts at $249 a month and Ribbon at $499 a month, billed yearly. Workstream, Fountain, Paradox, Alex, HeyMilo and Tenzo do not publish prices.
Does Paradox do AI phone screening?
Paradox’s website says Olivia screens applicants through chat or text, then books interviews. We found no AI phone call product on its site when we checked on October 19, 2026. Ask Paradox directly if phone calls matter to you.
Do candidates know they are talking to an AI?
They should. Most vendors tell candidates at the start of the call. Ask each vendor what the first line of the call says. Goodfit tells candidates at the start that an AI is interviewing them, and asks if now is a good time.
What happens if the candidate misses the call?
Most tools try again. Goodfit calls back when a line drops and books a new time when someone is busy. Phonescreen and Classet also let applicants call in on a hiring number when they are free. Check whether missed calls count toward your bill.
Do I pay for an interview if the candidate hangs up?
With Goodfit, an interview is free if the candidate is connected for less than 2 minutes. From 2 minutes on, it is billed at $5, even if the candidate leaves early. Phonescreen does not count missed calls, voicemails or candidates who withdraw. Ask every vendor how they count a finished screen.
